Kathmandu : Nepali national women’s cricket team take on test playing giants Srilanka in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok Thailand monday.
Nepali team which returned home a month ago after participating in the ICC Women's World Cup Asia Qualifier has trained for about two weeks for the tournament. But head coach Basnyat, under whom Nepal became runner-up in the ICC qualifiers, was confident of doing well in the tournament to be held in round-robin format before the final clash between the top two teams.
Twenty one year old all rounder Hasini Perera has been selected as the new captain of the srilanka squad, while Prasadini Weerakkody was appointed her deputy. A left-handed opener Hasini is a product of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda and captained the Western Province team to clinch the Inter-Provincial Women's cricket crown. Pace star Udeshika Prabodhini, opener Yasodha Mendis and all-rounder Ishani Lokusuriya who missed the ODI series against English women due to injuries, have all been recalled to the 15-member squad.
The Asia Cup is challenged by four Test playing countries India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Thailand are contending as the hosts, while Nepal made it to the competition taking after their runner-up complete in the as of late finished up ICC Women's World Cup Qualifying Series for Asia Region.
The national women's cricket team left here on Wednesday. “I am confident for good results in the Asia Cup as we performed well in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers,” said Chhettri before flying to Thailand. The championship is organized by the Asian Cricket Council.
