Pakistan become No. 1 in ICC Test rankings
Kathmandu : Pakistan cricket group on Monday bested the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test group rankings surprisingly after the last Test amongst India and the West Indies was canceled because of wet ground at the Queen`s Park Oval, Port of Spain, the world cricket body expressed on Monday. Misbah-ul-Haq was delighted to become the first Pakistan captain to inspire his side to the top of the Test rankings.
The result of the fourth and final Test means India won the series against the West Indies by 2-0, finishing on 110 points – one behind Pakistan and two ahead of third-ranked Australia. Pakistan are the fifth country after Australia, England, India and South Africa to become the number one team in Tests.
“There is no greater feeling than to achieve the number-one ranking in the most traditional and purest format of the sport. This is what cricketers play for and want to achieve in their careers. “Number-one ranking is a reward for something we had planned as a group a few years ago and have worked extremely hard to achieve it. To top the Test table, which boasts some of the best sides and players, is something to be very proud of. 42-year-old Misbah-ul-Haq saying.
India are second in the rankings with 110 points, while England and Australia are in joint third place on 108 points. The fight for the main positioning between the two conventional adversaries will continue one month from now when New Zealand visit India and Pakistan have the West Indies in the UAE.
