Kathmandu : Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched the fourth generation (4G) telecom service from Sunday in Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys. It plans to expand the service in other cities, gradually.
Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki launched the 4G service amid a special function in the Capital. Telecom said the service will be available in selected locations of the two valleys. But it has not disclosed the exact locations where the new generation of telecom service will be available.

The 4G is the latest wireless internet service succeeding 3G and allows higher internet speed as compared to 3G. Telecom has claimed that users can enjoy 32.4 Mbps per second download speed using 4G. According to NT, the service will benefit almost 350,000 NT post-paid subscribers in Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara. Telecom will charge the same cost as 3G service for the newly-launched 4G service.

How to activate 4G in NTC ??

To subscribe to 4G service, the customer’s mobile device should first be 4G compatible (Band-3 1800Mhz). Similarly, in case the post-paid SIM is of an older version, the SIM needs to be replaced with newer 4G-enabled SIM (Universal or U-SIM). Users can connect their device to 4G by typing *444# if they have fulfilled the aforementioned requirements.

1. You must have a GSM postpaid SIM and you must be connected to the NTC’s network within Kathmandu or Pokhara.
2. To activate NT 4G on ntc sim cards, you have to dial *444#. after activating this service in your number, NRs. 50 will be charged to your regular billing as the activation charge for 4G service. You will get 4 GB promotional offer which is valid for four days only.
3.Currently has around 13.3 million GSM mobile phone subscribers. However the service is available only for postpaid subscribers.
4. The current speed of mobile data transfer is 14 MB/second. After the launch, the speed will increase to 35 MB/second, claims the utility.
5. This service will not be immediately available to iphone users, though. This is because Apple has not yet turned on the location enable feature for NT networks.
